Reverend Beth Gray (Retired) of San Carlos, Calif. Is one of the leaders in this expanding trend of returning to the basics of life and its natural healing methods. She is one of twenty-two Reiki Masters in the World created by "The Master" Teacher Hawayo Takata."Loosely translated from the Japanese, Reiki symbolises the concept of Universal life energy." In an interview with Rev. Gray, it was learned that many medical professionals are becoming receptive to Reiki channeling. She had conducted Reiki in many hospitals' intensive care units with positive results, and has also instructed health practitioners in the art of Reiki. "A lot of medical personnel take it (Reiki) to increase and protect their own power," said Gray. "They are interested in an alternative form of healing because medical care is so expensive today."
"No one knows for sure when or where Reiki started." Said Gray. "Like most ancient arts, it seems that the technique was handed down from generation to generation for many thousands of years finally reaching what is now called Japan. It was discovered in the mid 1800's by a Dr. Mikao Usui from ancient Buddist teachings that contained certain symbols and formulas said to be used by prophets in their healing."
"Reiki was introduced in the United States as early as 1938 by a Japanese woman living in Hawaii. Her name was Hawayo Takata, and she practiced for many years privately and silently before passing on in December 1980." In the early seventies, Beth Gray visited Takata, becoming her student, and in 1974 opened the first Reiki healing center the Trinity Metaphysical Reiki Center on the mainland at Woodside Calif. The center is now in San Carlos, the oldest in the country (USA), and continues to thrive as more and more people reach to alternative healing methods to alleviate pain, stress, and other physical and psychological disorders.
"We don't understand exactly how it works," said Gray, "but it does work." Reiki healing is Particularly effective in the relief of stress and tension and can also be used in the treatment of debilitating illness and diseases such as cerebral palsy, cancer, and multiple sclerosis," according to Gray.Rev Gray "fine tuned" a person's ability to receive and conduct energy. She also taught how to insulate One's self as well as to channel energy, opening the body as necessary to receive this energy."Feel tired, down in the dumps?," smiles Beth, "that's your energy field depleted. "Protecting your energy field allows you to feel 'full of energy'". "During a Reiki healing session the 'channels' hands are placed on the client in specific positions. The hands remain there until the client's body has absorbed the energy…Gray said, that when the Reiki energy is being channeled the practitioner's hands experience intense heat and unusual vibrations while the energy is being absorbed by the client. When the hands cool and the sensations stop,it is time to move them to another part of the client's body." Gray explained that Reiki channel experiences a personal energy increase of as much as fifty percent
after going through her training seminar. When she herself was first "fine tuned" by her teacher Takata,she said it "felt as is a lightening bolt had struck her as the energy passed through her (Takata)."
Kirlian photographs, which show energy fields, showed an increase in a channel's energy after being "fine tuned" according to Gray, As well as not being depleted while channeling.Asked if perhaps the results obtained from Reiki healings are merely wishful or positive thinking on the Part of the client, Gray responded. "the consistency with which conditions are changed using Reiki would indicate that is not the case. In fact, it works well on plants and animals, and they have no conditioned beliefs." "Look at the number of medical situations in which operation after operation is performed successfully and the client still doesn't recover," said Gray.
"Reiki is very subtle and gentle, but it does produce dramatic results by getting to the cause of the problem." Rev. Gray's uncanny alignment to each individual, and her ability to personally attune to their energies permits the space for truly amazing miracles to occur. Students have described Reiki training classes as, "experiences that have transformed their lives." At the time of expanding consciousness in the West,when subatomic physics is becoming more attuned to spiritual philosophy, it would seem the concepts of Reiki healing are quite timely. These concepts transcend the scientific to the level of natural law itself.
In her forty years of investigating natural and paranormal healing methods, Gray said she has found Reiki to be the most effective and the simplest. "The training teaches students to use their hands to tell them what's going on in the body. Reiki will find the source of the symptoms automatically, fills the vibration, and restores the balance to the whole being. Reiki energy enhances anything one does." "You don't need to know anatomy or medicine. Just learn what your hands are saying to you as you move from place to place on the body. This together with the approximately fifty percent increase in the practitioner's own personal energy and the Protection of their own energy field make Reiki unique," she said.
"Christ's admonition, you remember was, 'Physician Heal Thyself.' I have always questioned those who claim the ability to heal others, but cannot help themselves"
